How to Use Your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for HSA/FSA Reimbursement

At Truemed, our mission is to make it simple for you to use your HSA/FSA funds to pay for your favorite wellness products. You can take advantage of the partnership with Truemed to get your fitness membership reimbursed through your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Follow these simple steps:

1. Understand Your LMN

You should have received a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) via email within 1-2 days of submitting your health intake survey. Your LMN is an important document that substantiates that your fitness membership is helping you to prevent or reverse a disease, thus enabling you to use your tax-free HSA/FSA dollars. Once issued, your LMN is valid for 12 months from the day you receive it.

2. Identify Your HSA/FSA Provider

If you are unsure who your HSA/FSA provider is, consult your employer's HR department.

3. Log into Your Provider's Online Portal

Use your credentials to access your HSA/FSA provider's online platform. If you don't have an account, you'll likely need to create one. At the bottom of this document, you will find links and specific instructions for the most popular HSA/FSA vendors.

4. Locate the 'Reimbursement' or 'Claims' Section

Most HSA/FSA online platforms will have a dedicated section for reimbursements or claims. Navigate to this section.

5. Submit Your LMN and Receipt

You will be required to upload two essential documents:

6. Await Confirmation

Once submitted, it usually takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for the provider to process your claim. The reimbursement amount will be deposited directly into your designated account.

7. Repeat for Future Receipts

You can use the same LMN to claim reimbursement for future receipts as long as the LMN remains valid (i.e., within 12 months of issuance).
